also it's so much easier to take the blame because that means you could protect yourself from it happening again because if it's your fault then you can prevent it from happening again while if it isn't your fault that what are you supposed to do ? live with the fear that it could happen again ? that you have no way of preventing it ? 😓

I have noticed this a lot. I'm a former youth in care so I've seen a lot of people i know well go through survival sex work and/or survival sex in "relationships." The survivors don't mean to train the women around them to accept grooming and abuse, but they're so ashamed that they minimize how bad it was, explain that they weren't perfect either, and that it wasn't like he was a criminal, it just wasn't great. I have the autism and I used to have zero tact, so I would just say that it was criminal, but that only made them insofar harder and minimize more.
