Eight US states have banned lab-grown meat. Florida's governor said: "Take your fake lab-grown meat elsewhere." Mississippi made it a criminal offence — up to $500 in fines and three months in jail for selling cultivated meat. Texas imposed a two-year ban. Alabama, Indiana, Montana, Nebraska, and South Dakota followed. Politicians framed it as protecting ranchers and food safety. The ranchers didn't ask for it. Dan Morgan — a fourth-generation Nebraska cattle rancher — publicly rejected the ban: "It should be up to consumers to decide what they want." The National Cattlemen's Beef Association said competition from cultivated meat "is not a concern." The North American Meat Institute called the bans "bad public policy that would restrict consumer choice and stifle innovation." The South Dakota Cattlemen's Association testified against a permanent ban, saying: "Consumers do not need the government to tell them that." Even South Dakota's governor said: "It is against our values to ban products just because we don't like it." The same conventional meat industry that injects cattle with six growth hormones banned in 30 countries, gases beef with carbon monoxide to hide spoilage, and tests positive for veterinary antibiotics not approved for humans — is telling you lab-grown meat isn't safe. Upside Foods and Wildtype are suing Texas and Florida, calling the bans unconstitutional. The FDA already cleared the products. The courts are deciding whether the states can override federal science with local politics. Scanned on the Exposr app
