HERE 👇🏻 😬When I hit puberty I remember how hormonal & difficult I became. I relished the thought of my parents not knowing what to do with me - I felt like I was winning. I was (& still am) stubborn, strong willed, determined, independent & I knew what I wanted. ‼️I didn’t see my mother as a person, I saw her as a parent. 😞I struggled regulating my emotions as a child. I was very quiet, shy & withdrawn with my sufferings. I never felt understood or seen, & I didn’t know how to open up. ✋That’s not my parents fault. I know they did their best & I’m so grateful for the way they raised me - I wouldn’t be who I am now without that & I like who I am. HERE’S WHAT MY MOTHER DID ⬇️ 📖In the midst of the teenage wars with my parents I remember coming home from school to a journal/dairy that my mother left on my bed. 📝She had written in the first pages how much I meant to her, how much she loved me & cherished our relationship, & how she hoped that this journal would enable us to be open & honest with one another. Share our feelings & bond. 🤯The moment I read that I remember realising that my mother was a person too. Not just an authority, but an actual person with feelings. 🥰I felt respected & cared about - that she wanted to hear about my life, my feelings, my struggles & my successes. ✅My mother found a way to communicate with me despite my raging hormones & teenage stubbornness. 🎉I had the opportunity to share with her my thoughts & feelings without any parental eyeballs looking at me, without judgement, without pressure to respond straight away. 🗓️For years, back & forth we shared this journal - leaving it in one another’s pillows once we had written in it. Sometimes several months between writing. 🤗She told me about her, I told her about me. 🙌🏻This even continued into my adult years. I recently found the journal in my belongings & wrote to her again! Almost 15 years later (but less frequently) we are still using this method of communication. 📲 SHARE this life tip with another mother! 📲 FOLLOW for more parent tips, hacks & humour #parenting #teenagegirls #parenttips #parentingtips #mumlife #twinmom #mumhacks
