You don't need to have batteries hooked up to any internal combustion engine after it starts. Yes with your diesel you dont need the alternator to run either, but it's got nothing to do with batteries

relays require electricity. that includes all the RAP and the thing keeping the injection pump shutoff from moving while the key is on

DB2 requires 2amps @ 12v to hold the fuel shut off open.

120 comments and none of them have ever seen a mechanical fuel pump or basically any old tractor?!? no battery in a john deer model a through L and they run on gas all day.

The electric starter on both my diesel tractors were optional extras, it can be started and will run quite happily without a battery

most modern vehicles need a battery to run, but some gas vehicles don't need batteries for the ignition system or fule injection they run directly off the alternator.

Yep, you do need batteries and alternator. If it still has electric solenoid for the shut off, you lose power you lose Fuel.
