Got an art history degree in NYC. That gave me taste. And not in a pretentious way. Taste is all about identifying the reference

DO NOT collect infinite references, DO study, and read books. creating isnt about putting together a large range of references, but identifying the line that conducts our materiality, what we've done so far in each field, and what makes sense to yet be done, following a robust methodology, sharpening a philosophy, wich then will be expressed through visuals and naturally ur references will show up. u dont use references cause they look cool or they're a mood or whatever, thats dumb, but because they're a material manifestation proof (like a bibliography) of much larger historical and social processes. in visuals we cant stamp the name of the book we took something from, but for ex the simple arrengment of a photo of a barroque church next to an ipod side by side already can tell A LOT

I’m a photographer and my style comes from all my childhood music I don’t really know how to explain it or pin point it …. But it’s not other photographers

Do you think that in this context taste can be tied to some type of intelligence since asking your self why and finding the reasons of things is constantly in the forming of thoughts of deep thinkers?

people also need to know that tastemaking needs constant practice. I used to work hard for it from childhood to mid 20s then I lost track because of work and doom scrolling.

I think the main problem is also the hyper-specialization of our time. It's like we're only allowed to study one field, but in my opinion, the biggest ideas come from the cross-pollination of different discipline

this is exactly what I tell people when they ask where I get my references. it's not about what you reference, it's about how many you reference and how you connect them to create something that feels original.

Books, fashion, culture, childhood, nostalgia, personal experience, social interactions. I’ve started painting again and going to put up these pieces myself because what I wanted for my home doesn’t exist outside of myself.

You can’t teach it, and you’re not born with it, it’s just random, everything good in life is just random, it’s just a giant game of luck whether something looks good or not
