as someone who mostly fishes to eat, and will sometimes also C&R, there's really no moral leg to stand on here unless we're all vegans. we live in a late capitalist society and we all could do with hobbies that take us outside and back to the soil, as long as we are trying to do so in a sustainable way (esp by buying licenses which go towards conservation), and not poaching. I don't know any C&R fisherman that don't have a part of them die inside when the fish is gut hooked

I’m assuming that since you’re able to judge fishermen that you must donate yearly to conservation…since without said fishermen there would be practically no money put towards conservation and poachers would just kill all our fish…

i have this theory that it's because we as people like to be in control, have the power over something or someone and deciding about something's else life and fate, and fish can't really harm you so you can feel this feeling while doing it in safe environment imo
