I was the rollerskater; HIII. So, we went through audio check beforehand and everyone approved beforehand!! The person who had the Spotify song was a late entry!!! They barely got into the entry for context. The audio lady was doing her absolute best 😭

i entered the under 16 cosplay competition at Galaxy con with my partner (we were both 16) where we sang and choreographed an entire scene 3 years ago, and lost to a toddler in a a store bought Vegeta cosplay who stepped on stage and ran off crying. 😭

Hi I was the Corpse Bride! we went over with the audio lady beforehand and she was really sweet and helpful! the person with Spotify joined literally 5 minutes before we went on. Performances for solo acts were 1:30 sec and duos could be up to 5 min. So unless sound people were told it wouldn't be cut off till the 1:30 mark

My heart broke for that one Hazbin performer—I’ve been there prior to my improvement in improv, it’s so anxiety inducing to be just dropped into something you have no idea how to make up for. Stage presence is EVERYTHING with musical characters and I just know they worked hard only for them to be completely thrown off kilter. Using Spotify was just plain wrong just because it relies HEAVILY on internet access/Wifi, a thing that conventions are KNOWN TO NEVER HAVE GOOD WIFI. Which could possibly explain why some started so late, but by that point they really should have asked for plain audio files and plug them into a mix program.

the first issue was using Spotify I have been doing sound for the past 3 years in school, I can do better than that, and that's because we usually don't allow Spotify tracks. They're hard to handle, and we usually like to be given straight audio that we can put on to a system called q lab. Which makes it into a tiny little playlist that cuts off on the time we have programmed in giving much more freedom to add fades and everything a part could be the performers but it mostly sounds like the convention and their staffs fault

Hey guys, so I actually won Best in Show at this masquerade and I’d like to say a couple things— 1.) the person doing audios wasn’t the same person who confirmed our audios prior to the competition. I’m sure they weren’t trying to ruin anyone’s performance, but there was definitely a lack of communication. 2.) the Alastor cosplayer mentioned (who was sweet as can be) was a last minute entry and most likely didn’t understand the time constraint of being a solo performer. They did it for fun, they tried their best, that’s what matters. And 3.) GalaxyCon as a whole has some amazing staff, but they definitely need more training in order to prevent things like this. (I’m not saying the con itself is wonderful, but the stage manager has always been super sweet and helpful)
