my car-guy husband says "Check if you have vacuum on the line that is plugged into the carb.. If you DO have vacuum, you got a faulty carburetor. (sometimes it happens with aftermarket parts). If you don't have vacuum, then it's a vacuum leak." Hope this helps Lol Good Luck Lol

Vacuum Leaks the new carburetor isn't seated perfectly, or a vacuum hose was left disconnected or cracked, extra air enters the engine. This creates a lean condition that raises the RPM. Check that all vacuum lines are plugged into their proper ports and spray carburetor cleaner around the base gasket. If the engine idle changes, you have a leak.

Can’t get right :
Also check the choke if it is staying on it’ll cause this to happen as well. A picture of the carb would help as well

what brand of carburator is it? husband said sounds like accelerator pump, or if it's a cheap aftermarket carb they sometimes won't seat correct.husband also has worked on fords his whole life. has a 64 galaxy and 78 crew cab.
