I see the nurses missing cookouts, family time, holidays, rest, peace, and moments they can never get back, all because the bills still have to be paid and the hospital never closes. People don’t talk enough about what this career can do to you mentally and emotionally over time. The pre-shift anxiety. The exhaustion. The overstimulation. The missed holidays. The feeling of giving everyone else your energy while having nothing left for yourself when you get home. And before anyone twists my words, this isn’t “nurse hate.” I will ALWAYS respect nurses because I know how hard we work. But I also know there are so many nurses silently wondering: “Is this really what I want my life to look like forever?” That question changed everything for me. I got tired of surviving. Tired of missing moments. Tired of feeling like my entire life revolved around a schedule someone else controlled.
