I don’t know why they fell out but here is this Gen X lore: the OG was Ana Paz. She baked cakes for celebrities in that era. I remember visiting the shop and seeing pictures of her with famous people and the cakes she baked for them. She was the fondant pioneer lol. Her bakery was located in the shopping plaza that’s across international mall. Lucilla worked for her and stole the recipe and went on to open her own shop. ALLEGEDLY. My mom worked for Ana Paz with Lucilla in the early 90s (Lucilla was an assistant and cake decorator like my mom) That is Ana Paz’s recipe. ALLEGEDLY… But who knows why those two fell out.

Sooo I was told that the person who opened Lucilas used to work for Edda’s and then open their own bakery, which is why their cakes taste exactly the same! So I think that’s why people pick a side! lol

Edda's Cake Designs: Founded by Cuban native Edda Martinez, who moved to Miami in 1960. She grew up watching her aunt bake, but her career truly began after she took a cake decorating course in 1976. She proved so talented that she was asked to teach it. Lucila Cakes no longer exists. Sweet Art by Lucila was when Lucila tried franchising before she retired and sold her company. Sweet Art by Lucila has the original Lucila recipe because it was part of the franchise agreement. When the new owners bought Lucilas they tried to get Sweet Art by Lucila to close but that didn’t happen.
