Meanwhile in the country that invented the underground railways. Most of the network is automatic and for the driver operation lines there's a stopping marker for the drivers.

Our automated driverless Metros in Copenhagen stop in alignment with doors to the platform. This is a thoroughly fixable problem.

It seems like this could be solved with a trivial bit of technology... I can think of multiple methods that all could have been produced even 50 years ago.

German slurry trucker here, i load my truck about 20 to sometimes even 40 times a day and whenever i realize i'm getting unfocused i use the pointing technique so i dont forget to close a valve or even forget to remove the hose bevore i drive off. This has already saved me from a lot of cleaning. Also everytime i train a new driver i tell them about this technique which is truly helpful for them, as it allows them to make far fewer mistakes.

We use this technique in the UK. We call it risk triggered commentary. Trains We drive can vary in length and platform sides changing. RTC verbalise a task and as you said it focuses the brain into making a decision.

This is more a sign that they need to update their trains. The 1973 stock on the Piccadilly line in London only varies by a few centimetres over thousands of stops. And most of our infrastructure is more modern and capable than that.
