I wonder how much of this phenomenon is because it’s easy to burn out on esoteric reading when you have to do it all day for school or work. When I used to work at a restaurant I had way more of an appetite for getting lost in weird internet rabbit holes when I got home

No literally I have a library science degree and work in a Starbucks (the economy is rough you guys) and my best days are when I recognize something a regular or coworker is reading and have like 30 recommendations for them.

When I came in clutch when feminists were sharing an old article about a southern french doctor who was prosecuted in the 70's for helping trans women transition, and I had the link to the pdf of an article she made to respond to the controversy in some obscure independent activist paper I happened to have made my master thesis on

agree so much with the idea that Twitter users were self-selected to be smarter than your average social media user, and that's what made it the best one of them all. the forced brevity, the text-based nature, etc. I don't think we can ever get that back but the relationships I forged because of / during its glory days are all so extremely important to me I've met so many incredible and impressive people through that app
