Here in Georgia there was a similar trend. My grandma has an old chair where the seat is woven from old neckties.

did you soak the cord first it helps tension the seat as it dries the same as any rope work .

in historical costume it's often said that patchwork is historically accurate, and I believe that applies here. a bit of the old, some of the new, makes a usable and strong chair

I have been thinking of making a Sugon chair set, I am retiring soon and I miss me nan’s old ones from when I was wee am tired and feeding the chickens through the fence I would grab one from the back shed to sit on as I poked things through the bars.
