In the Netherlands, they are currently working on the following. The Inspire Therapy system consists of a compact respiratory sensor and a stimulation electrode, which are powered by a small generator. The system continuously measures the patient's breathing rhythm during sleep and adjusts to the natural breathing rate. Using a small remote control, the Inspire system is switched on with the push of a button before going to bed and switched off again in the morning after waking up. The patient's suitability for this new form of therapy is assessed by a doctor during sleep studies.
