Thank you for saying this!! Some Astarion ‘fans’ have no idea who he is and just think hes hot 🤦♀️I always picture my tav slowly walking closer and sitting there not right next to him but a distance close enough for him to know shes there if he needs it

I’d want the option to sit next to him and wait. Looking at him, my eyes saying “I’m here if you need me”. I always firmly believed that Astarion needs a true friend and not a lover.

I always wanted the hug option as something to do after, even back at camp. but I specifically wanted it to be the player holds their arms open in offer and let's Astarion take it :)

Idk I agree and disagree. Astarion learns certain touch is safe for him, otherwise he wouldn’t want to be with anyone. I very much think Astarion has spent 200 years only having affection when he has done something someone else wanted. Comforting him with a hug as a romance option I don’t think is wrong. If you’re not romancing him, yeah maybe just the option to sit with him. But I don’t think a hug is selfish. Touch like that is emotionally regulating, something Astarion has never had. He hasn’t had anyone be there for him. He hasn’t had safety like that in 200 years. Knowing someone is there with him, feeling his pain, sharing his surge of emotion…I think he wouldn’t feel so alone.

As someone who was SA as a child repeatedly, I don't like touch. Especially in my most vulnerable moments. I never think about hugging him but letting him have it and I cry with him. I wanted to do the same to my abuser.

Exactly!! I’ve been arguing this for so long! Especially from someone who’s been preyed on & assaulted the last thing I would want after meeting/encountering the person/people who destroyed my life is to be touched.

Gameplay-wise, it would be interesting to offer him a hug and have him disapprove of that action. Like a test of how well you've read his character. Companions have these sorts of options all the time.

I mean… I would like the option to open my arms as an invitation for a hug. Most people won’t take the invitation if they won’t want comfort. But if they want it? They’ll walk over and throw themselves into the hug.

Feels correct after, with the hug mode in the camp after you talk with him about how he feels. Thats the right moment. Here its the catharsis, the precise moment he breaks his chains for good, the end of a nightmare. An important moment for himself. Yes i agree with you

Yeah no, as someone obsessed with Astarion I don't want to hug him during that. I want to give him room to breathe and begin to process. Hugging in that moment would feel forced and suffocating.
