High speed rail in the US can get delayed for decades over environmental reviews and local opposition. But giant AI data centers can get fast tracked even with massive public resistance and concerns about water, electricity, and environmental damage. It really shows how much faster the system moves for big tech corporations than for public infrastructure that would actually benefit ordinary people.

Genuine question, if they are using all this water and are pouring it onto the computers or whatever why don’t they add drain type structures or floors with indents or holes or something so they can collect and use the excess water that I’m sure is left around after use. I can only imagine that not every drop of water being used is actually used. I’m not at all an expert so let me know

I work in data centre infrastructure across EMEA on the energy side. In Europe the data centre developers have to use Renewable Energy for their sites. They also have to have what’s called a ‘closed loop’ water system which means it’s all recycled water that’s being used. They also need to build the infrastructure that goes into energising the DCs, substations etc. ALL from energy that already exists (wind/solar) and harnessing into large batteries to ensure no downtime in output. If the energy infrastructure does not exist, they will build it (solar farms). A lot of my clients build in the Nordics because of cooler temperatures and access to already established renewable energy sources.

why cold water? why water? the idea of having to clean and filter the water first and then dump it off is insane, why wouldnt you run coolents? thats all very expensive to do over and over day in and day out. cleaning water and using it once is so veey very ineffective
