@suttersfortshp: On May 25, 1848, John Sutter wrote in the daily logbook at Sutter’s Fort, “A number of people continue travelling to the Mountains.” This was the last entry made in the daily logbook now known today as the New Helvetia Diary. Works like the New Helvetia Diary give a glimpse into what life was like at Sutter’s Fort in the 1840s such as Marshall bringing the gold to Sutter on January 28, 1848 and also the role of the local Native population in the history of the site and the impacts of colonization. The diary was later transcribed and published by the Grabhorn Press in 1939 in San Francisco. In this video, Jared discusses the New Helvetia Diary, some of the diary entries, its connection to the print shop at the @Sacramento History Museum, and its importance to Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park. #onthisday #suttersfort #castateparks #museumtok #LearnOnTikTok
