I use one of these this school year! It got to the point where the kids are going up to the pencil parking lot, even if they had a pencil in their book bag! 🤦🏽♀️

I love all these ideas for classrooms. However, 20 years ago…. this wouldn’t be a problem. Teachers are having to buy way too much just to ask for basic respect of classroom rules and supplies.

Each student starts out the week with four or sometimes five pencils in a toothbrush holder. At the end of the week, Friday afternoon if you have all five of your pencils, you get the prize box (which is not always something that cost me money for example set by a friend, lunch with the teacher, wear a hat…) I don’t necessarily agree with getting a prize for what you should be doing every day as a student, like taking care of your supplies, but this has kept me from spending more money on pencils.

I place 5 on my front board, if they borrow one, they write their name. At the end of the hour, it is easy to see who has your pencils and remind them to turn them back in.

I loved this when I was in the GenEd setting! Every student had a number and they “parked” their pencil there when we were not using them. It was a great system for us all to stay organized. I had one student assigned to sharpen them at the start of every day. I loved it!

I love this! I’d like to add that upper elementary higher grades should have a partnership with the lower grade teachers. We have tons of pencils especially used ones at the end of the year! I pack all the used ones up and send them to my friend who teaches at a middle school. Those are her extras. It perfect and saves on trash

I wish we could ask for a shoe to borrow a pencil. That way we MIGHT get our pencils back at the end of class. 😂
