Engineering is not sometimes for Technical students, it’s actually for technical students. Technical education is application of Science and the application of science is what we call technology today. General Science is good but blending it with the technical education is perfect. Almost No SHS in Ghana offering General Science is having a lab training students in some sort of Engineering field like Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Aeronautical Engineering etc. Some of us offered Science and Technical education blending Elective Mathematics, Physics, Technical Drawing and any technical skill program field of your choice. These are the best to shape you as a complete Engineer as you enter the university. Most graduates come out without knowing how to even apply the knowledge because they just went through the system because they know how to chew and poor but a technical student with physics and Mathematics already knows and sure of what he wants to do before going to the university. HEAD(knowledge), HEART(passion) and HAND(skills) are the core values of Engineering. If you are sure of choosing engineering as a career path please get a blend of Science and Technological skills . Offering G. art and later trying to go for engineering is going to be double stress , those people offer bridge courses for a year or two to fit in the engineering courses and also go to technical schools for vacation training which is ok. That Journey will tell you how you wasted your time in SHS as a G. Art student. Going forward let’s train our kids to be sure of what they want to avoid emotional and peer pressure kind of courses selection for SHS.
