You would also have got a free baby hamper with nappies, creams, bottles etc.and baby formula for each baby, enough for the first month I think.

This was Bevan's idea, a healthcare system, free at the point of use. Paid for by tax. I'd willingly pay double the amount of income tax if I knew it was going straight to the NHS.

it's not perfect. you do have longer waits, but it's free. even if you're working prescription charges a really cheap and you can get a prepay card to get 5hat stuff cheaper if you need alot. congratulations on the two babies.

You work here and pay taxes so you’re paying for the nhs.

I love seeing this the opposite way to me! I disliked the NHS and wait times and would so much rather pay my copay in the US for better care. However on the flip side I love seeing someone enjoy experiencing the NHS and having great care! It’s pretty rare to see. I’m glad you’re enjoying your time in the UK 🥰

my local hospital refunds parking if you're a patient there, plus other than A&E everyone has their own room in various different recovery wards, when I had my first two I remember it being curtained wards and then when I went in with my third after the refurb I'm like, what do you mean I have a giant room to myself with an ensuite?

The NHS is one of the greatest achievements of our society — a true jewel of this country — and despite decades of underfunding, cuts and relentless pressure that have left it fighting simply to keep operating, it still delivers care, compassion and expertise on a scale many nations can only dream of. Day after day, extraordinary staff hold it together through sheer commitment and humanity, and I remain immensely proud of what it represents: the belief that healthcare should be based on need, not wealth. To allow it to be dismantled or handed over to private interests by political voices with little grasp of the realities faced by ordinary people, or the basic humanity at the heart of public healthcare, would be nothing short of a national travesty.

Forgive my ignorance but surely breast milk is fine for babies, as most lactose intolerance in infants is due to a tummy bug and they recover very quickly

I have just spent 2 weeks in hospital (NHS) coming home on oxygen at home, not cost me a penny. Hate to think what it would have cost elsewhere. At least I can recover without worrying about healthcare debt

When you say the first thing would have cost you $4000, is that with or without insurance?
