Last year, I remember being asked what my goals were for 2025. I would jokingly (but also… not really joking) say, “to survive.” I knew I had four surgeries to remove loose skin and treat lipedema coming this year, and my real goal was simply to get through them, as in… to stay alive 😂 and to focus on my health and healing, whatever that looked like for me this year. And not just my physical health. My emotional and mental health mattered just as much, because surgery doesn’t only affect your body, it affects everything. It’s been overwhelming. Emotional. Exhausting. Painful. And while my body was healing, I was also navigating the biggest heartbreak I’ve ever experienced. This year asked more of me than just physical endurance. It’s also been rewarding in ways I didn’t expect. Not just because I’ve experienced a body with less loose skin and lipedema, but because I’ve been able to see what I’m capable of. I’m proud of myself for resting when I needed to and letting people help me. Proud of myself for not obsessing over weight gain during the healing process. Proud of myself for getting back into the gym even while feeling so much weaker than before. Proud of myself for taking care of my emotional and mental health through it all. Proud of myself for sharing honestly here about my surgery experiences. Proud of myself for how patient I’ve been throughout this process. Proud of myself for continuing to show up despite feeling like I had nothing left to give. My body may still be gaining its pre-surgery strength back, but somehow I feel stronger than ever before. More capable. More resilient. More sure of what I can endure. This year wasn’t just about healing my body. It was about learning how to feel at home in it. I didn’t just survive. But I also didn’t thrive, and that’s okay. Because I healed. I lived. I learned. I rested. I grew. I think I amazed myself this year.
And that’s an incredible feeling. 🥹 If you do anything for yourself in 2026… amaze yourself. 🥰 👉🏻 My team featured in this video — Plastic surgeon: @modernplasticsurgery Lipedema surgeon: @drariamd Surgery center: @Advanced Lipedema Treatment & @The Roxbury Institute Post op nurse: @prestigecarela (on IG) 👉🏻 Surgeries — Surgery 1 (February): lower body lift, tummy tuck with muscle repair and pubic lift Surgery 2 (April): breast lift (skin removal only, no implants) Surgery 3 (June): brachioplasty extended to the forearms, fat transfer to the breasts and lipedema removal in the calves and ankles Surgery 4 (August): Lipedema removal in the thighs *All surgeries come with risks.
