I had a teacher in highschool that I stayed connected with after and she remembered how interested I was during our Native history section so she bought me tickets to our local powwow as a wedding present so I could go and ask questions and see one in person

I went to my first powwow a couple weekends ago. because I didn't want to assume anything I would occasionally ask. eventually I discovered that they have an etiquette flier so grabbed one. I plan on going to more powwows as I reconnect and hopefully get involved with some of the powwows themselves.

I have a child on the autism spectrum. I'm always trying to expose him to different cultures and experiences so he connect with the world. I'm trying to figure out how to ask this without seeming ignorant. How accepting would people at a powwow be of my child? I don't want to insult anyone.But I also want my son to feel comfortable

I'm married in 2A Native American family, and the things that I had to learn to be respectful. That I wasn't accustomed to not the. Respect part. But the customs they put forth was very hard. Just one conversation with my mother-in-law and her sisters about what happened to their mother, who? That's how close the generations are about being taken from the reservation. And forced into schools, because that was what had to be done, the crying and the pain. I heard made me open my eyes to a whole nother world
