People refuse to understand that you can be both more privileged and less privileged than someone else at the same time.

people can't fathom that there is more than one way to be oppressed and it's not a comparison game just understanding and empathy is needed

This is why I think that sociology and even social psychology should be required in high school. The biases we hold and the stereotypes we are exposed to impact marginalized groups even in simpe every day interactions.

I saw someone say Christian took it too far with having notes, but this is an academic discussion. It's important to have notes and organize your thoughts when having academic discussion, especially when the purpose is to be informative like his video

I feel like discourse like this is happening bc ppl do not view sociology as a legitimate science yes social science but still science meaning these concepts have been researched and have been backed by data. We are not theorizing out of nothing or !solely! out of personal experiences. Frustrating

people wanna have discussions about academic discourses that have been around for years, decades even, without even understanding the core concepts. They also want to have academic discussions without an actual discussion and just 100% agreement.

Yes and geography plays a role too! Sometimes within the same state where you are could mean something totally different

People would benefit a lot by reading the original paper by Crenshaw. It's quite short and easy to understand, as well as useful. It was actually a requiered reading in my Women's Health class and the concept is really necessary in a lot of disciplines, including medecine for example.

ppl do not have the ability to hold two (or more) differing opinions at the same time & it’s why so much tiktok discourse is EXHAUSTING to participate

I'm starting to think we gotta start giving definitions and examples along with citations cuz most people have not read the foundational texts that created the terms they're using 😔

A lot of people just cannot hold two beliefs at once. This is where “and” is more applicable than “but”. Not everything is an argument against another thing and people fail to understand that

People wanna act like privileges are levels, and they aren’t. That’s still hierarchal thinking.
