I think they complement each other. Shikamaru definitely complains a lot but he gets stuff done and he’s typically calm. Temari can be intense and short-tempered so someone like Shikamaru would mellow her out and do things with her bc she likely had to do a lot of things on her own as the eldest sister. She loves Shikamaru bc she wants him, not necessarily needs him. Similarly, Temari pushes him to get off his ssa and be a better version of himself. That’s my head canon anyway 😌😌
