The judge in the trial over the Iskanders' wrongful death lawsuit is allowing jurors to submit questions for witnesses, and they had a few for retired Major League Baseball pitcher Scott Erickson on Friday (May 22). Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Huey Cotton asked the questions on the jurors' behalf. One juror questioned Erickson's testimony that he asked Rebecca Grossman if she saw the boys when she called him and said something bad happened as she was driving from Julio's restaurant in Westlake Village, California, on Sept. 29, 2020. Erickson was referring to young brothers Mark and Jacob Iskander, who he testified he saw in the road and sped up to avoid. Witnesses said Grossman was speeding near Erickson and they appeared to be racing their vehicles when Grossman struck the boys, but Erickson testified he hadn't seen Grossman for seven or eight minutes after he left the restaurant. The juror's question on Friday indicated disbelief that Erickson didn't see Grossman while driving but still thought to ask her if she saw the boys in the road. "Can you describe in detail your decision-making in mentioning the boys you saw in the crosswalk to the driver of a car you testified you had not seen for seven or eight minutes while you were stopped on Lindero Road in the rearview mirror of your vehicle while passing through the intersection?" Judge Cotton asked. "I don't understand the seven or eight minutes," Erickson said. "So, you said you hadn't seen Rebecca Grossman since Julio's?" the judge said. "Correct," Erickson answered. "Why did you ask her whether she saw the boys, if you had just passed them?" the judge asked. "I asked her, because I was home and parked, waiting for her, and I had seen them in the road just minutes earlier, and she called me. ... I don't know exactly how long I was parked at her house. I was standing on the curb. And she called and said something bad happened, and the first thought I had was, 'My gosh, the kids were in the road. Is this related to what happened?' And then she said, 'the kids,' and then I never talked to her again," Erickson testified. Erickson finished testifying on Friday.
