Legally if they had nothing to do with the contract then legally they had no right to keep that inventory. Something similar happened to all the major comic companies when their main distributor diamond went out of business.

see it no different than buying a burial spot at a cemetery. Cemeteries change hands alot, so I buy my spot from "Dan" Dan sells the cemetery to "Tom" i still own a spot at that cemetery, along with a vault or marker if I bought it , even if I paid "Dan". now I know cemetery and Lego is way different lol but when you buy a company the contracts is bought with that company, so you either make it right or honor the contract period.
