This is misleading and oversimplified, the tax code doesn’t force provider to pay directly out-of-pocket. Tax code allows for massive deductions to prevent this. And pinning doctor flight from the state on this tax is incomplete and a bit of a scapegoat

As a contracted physical therapist with early intervention, I pay gross receipts and it is a big chunk of my pay. The company I work for used to pay them and then gave us a "raise" and quit paying our gross receipts tax.

The NM politicians need to eliminate the GRT taxes and make our malpractice insurance comparable to Arizona and Texas if they are serious about retaining doctors or attracting new providers!
