@rodsnmods: Tech Tip Tuesday! Why you NEED a sealer before spraying your base coat! Skipping sealer on a full repaint or custom build? Here is why you shouldn't: Flawless Surface: It fills in those fine 400/600 grit sand scratches so your base coat lays down perfectly flat. The Ultimate Shield: Base coats are aggressive. A good sealer stops the base from melting into your primer edge and causing chemical reactions or "ringing." The Golden Rule: If you’re using an epoxy sealer, patience is key. Let it sit for about an hour before your base coat. Rushing it traps solvents and ruins the finish! Bonus Prep: Always hit the panel with a tack rag right before spraying to grab any leftover dust. 1. Improves adhesion – Helps the basecoat bond properly to the surface. 2. Prevents bleed-through – Blocks stains, old paint colors, body filler, spot putty, or repair areas from showing through the new paint. 3. Creates a uniform color foundation – Gives the entire panel a consistent shade, helping the basecoat cover evenly and match better. 4. Reduces solvent absorption – Prevents different areas (primer, filler, old paint) from absorbing basecoat differently, which can cause color variation. 5. Improves appearance – Helps reduce issues such as mottling, patchiness, and uneven metallic distribution.

you shouldn't have to worry about the the sanding scratches before paint a repair area you shouldn't have to seal

I like that you are saying why you decided to do this based on this specific job. You see a lot of “you have do to this otherwise you suck” kind of videos and we both know those are wrong. Cheers dude

Also helps get better coverage using base with less coats bc it’s not as porous as primer

dont care how you good you are sealer sucks but you have to use it in collision your basically using the same product you have to sand hence primer with a additive to make a sealer paint jobs look fine but could look way better without it
