@nurseinthemakingkristine: This is a hill I will absolutely die on. Why? 1. I asked more questions. When I asked questions in class, it made me feel stupid because I might not have understood the content. But sitting there confused isn’t going to help you or your future patients. 2. I focused on understanding, not memorizing. This might have led to me being slower at learning, but at the end of the day, I didn’t rush through content just to “get it done.” I took time to actually connect the dots. 3. The struggle made me work for it. This built endurance. It taught me how to push through when things didn’t come easily, and that’s exactly what nursing requires. Yes, grades are CRUCIAL in nursing school, and I’m not saying they don’t matter (because they DO)... But when your patient is in their hospital bed, critical thinking, ability to communicate, anticipating orders and actions, and recognizing changes quickly… it doesn’t all come down to classroom grades. It’s easy to forget this in the moment of receiving a low score. But trust me, you WILL understand it once you get your first patient assignment & need to act. Keep going, future nurse.
