Y'all genuinely don't understand, as someone who says "if", the "if" in question is NOT a hypothetical about MY feelings, it's a hypothetical about the other person's ones and/or external causes. I do love my partner, but if it will be their decision I WILL respect it AS I RESPECT HIM. You can never be sure of anything in life, but usually I tend to specify that mine is an "if" hoping for a "surely", by my part, in some way.

No, cause I do this, because I don’t want to say something In a ‘it’s definitely happening’ way when I don’t actually know. Me and my bf are only 16 though, so it gives me even more reason to do that. eh it works if you haven't really talked about marriage yet. If you already said you're dating with the intent to get married eventually, then yeah, you can say "when" IF you want to. but it's still basically an IF cause lots of stuff could happen, even if you already picked the date.
