Ppl gotta realise that there’s a difference between occasionally interacting with fans (commenting/reposting fan works n stuff) and inserting yourself into the fandom (what goose is doing)

It felt kinda odd to see Gooseworx enter critique posts in fandom spaces such as Reddit and interact with it so casually and start arguing with fans.

I think another reason why it got so bad is because is how Glitch Productions is so inexperienced which leads to a lot of problems . Like there only NOW hiring a Pr team and let’s not forgot the time they replaced an actor (for SMG4) without notice because they thought she had to much on her plate without asking the actor first. I don’t believe Glitch is flat out malicious but I do believe they are inexperience and unpreparedness which led a lot of creators not having a barrier between them and the fans and taking a lot flack for stuff that was not their fault

she wasn't parasocial with fans, she just never shuts up about the show even though it'd be better for us to see things unfold in the episode

really feel like the term parasocial is getting overused pretty regularly lately.

There’s a reason there’s the old cliche of a writer in the woods, or musicians going on retreats to write. At some point, you just have to have distance. lol

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gooseworx pulls a George Lucas and just sells the full rights to Glitch productions

bro so many downfalls and dramas in indie spaces just boils down to lack of professional boundaries. I hate that smaller projects get advertised like 'omg support our cool thing we are a small community and the creators actually respond!!' and then, as they grow, they feel pressured to still keep up this down to earth, big friendgroup vibe- like once you hit 1.5k you gotta lock in. this applies to the people working on it too, once you start gaining real traction, you cannot operate like a group of friends chilling out doing a cool thing, at the end of the day it's a job and professionalism is there for everyone's protection and benefit, you can still goof off with your friends you NEED to be able to conduct yourself professionally contextually

I have been thinking this EXACT thing. The fandom isn’t for the creator to engage in, imo. That is the place for the FANS to talk about the show in whatever way they see fit. To have the creator come in and say “Well you’re wrong for thinking this” or something along those lines is always weird. “Don’t think this about my media!!!” like they didn’t put it out there for people to consume and then subsequently think about. You cannot control how other people view or interact with your property and it spells disaster when you try to do that.

It sucks, because I have a desire to make content again, but I don’t want to be famous. Not to say I will be, very unlikely, more of a verbal complaint for how problematic fame can be for a person. It’s the desire for a community within the content, but the human brain was never made for parasocial relationships.

nah, people need to be accountable and stop calling their parasocial relationship the fault of the person they're obsessed with.

it's also why a lot of content creators hire social media managers as well. it's hard to deal with an infinite number of people. we're just really not built for that

All the trouble she and glitch would've avoided if they just hired a PR guy or a social media manager throughout the length of the show. There was no need to go into a one vs all argument against the whole fanbase and the whole internet.

And the worst thing is, not everyone is cut out for that level of fame. It can go to people's heads, or become a crushing weight in the process. And unless you have built that close-knit support network, you will drown in fans before you can find one.

also I feel like people kind of made too big of a deal out of a work that draws on its inspirations to the point of being a direct homage rather than original work like it's fine

I'll remind myself from getting some media training, lock my other tweeter accounts and to get a media manager if I become a creator in the future
