I live in Puerto Vallarta and when people tell me they want to go to Tulum or Cancun vacation the first thing I tell them is that it’s not very safe. Things happen anywhere in the world, but I’ve lived in Vallarta for three years and have not felt unsafe. Also playa del Carmen nope! 👎

My husband and I loved Tulum! We had a private driver from our resort take us everywhere (included with resort) but we definitely tipped him VERY well and took him out to a late lunch with us. Google translated the entire day with him and LOVED IT! He wouldn’t let anyone talk to us or bother us. I asked him to just hang out with us all day and he happily did❤️❤️❤️I actually miss that man 🥹

for everyone saying Tulum is overpriced, ong y'all gotta not take the resort routes. I went to Tulum and by accident my card expired the day after I arrived and survived on 600 bucks worth of pesos to go to the beach, several cenotes, scuba diving and ate at 2 fancyish restaurants and then even my phone sank in a cenote and I got helped out by the locals lol

I’m in Tulum right now and there’s nothing here that makes me feel unsafe. Everyone we’ve met so far have been very courteous and nice to us. We just paid $130 USD to rent an ATV 5 days. It is our first full day here but I don’t get “sketchy” whatsoever. Undeveloped, yes. Which is fine

I had a friends trip in Puerto Escondido. We met a guy who took the 4 of us on a boat ride for only $500 MXN and then he picked up us at nighttime in a “sketchy” van to take us to see the bioluminescence for an extra $500mxn. Honestly we were a bit scared of trusting a stranger but everyone so nice and friendly and they made us feel safe. It was one of our highlights from that trip.

As a 45yo Mexican woman, living my entire life in Mexico City, I spent 2 months in Santiago de Chile, and I can surely say it was so, so comforting to feel safe walking alone past midnight, after clubbing. And that same feeling through towns in Patagonia 🫶🏻 🇨🇱
