So what the Chinese call red tea, English call black tea! They’re actually the same type of preparation of Camellia Sinensis, the tea plant. Green tea, black (and red) tea, white tea, oolong tea, and pu-er tea are all different preparations of the same plant. Rooibus is a different plant entirely!

Generally teas differ by the process of making them, so some are sun dried, some are fried etc, so you may react to some based on how the leaves are processed to become the tea.

there are other types of “true” teas (from the tea plant, same as black and chinese red tea) that are lower in caffeine than black tea, such as oolong, yellow, and white tea. there’s also pu’erh, but that’s fermented, which is bad for MCAS right?

Red tea in China is what China calls Black tea so it’s the same. Black tea in China is fermented tea which is heavily oxidised. But also I recommend loose leaf if you can because English breakfast is very bitter because the tea bag itself completely changes the leaf as it compresses it. It is caffeinated but the flavours are so good depending on the tea

would that work tho, since the different types of teas, like tea from camellia sinensis, undergo different chemical processes? wouldn't there be still a change that it would cause a reaction?

Rooibos is such a weird thing, I swear I know 4 people with no allergies whatsoever but they all react to rooibos like they’re allergic to it, myself included, I used to work in a tea shop and all the times I took a sip of rooibos tea to try it I had a scratchy and itchy throat for a week (I’m almost positive that was an very mild allergic reaction because it was instant)

Maybe try white tea - I had a tea tour once and it’s made with the baby leaves of the tea leaves, roasted really short time, and it smells incredible
