As an older woman I haven't removed body hair in a very long time - I simply do not care enough about others opinions. Not fearful, just indifferent. I quite enjoy other people feeling uncomfortable when they look at me 😁

It’s really about a collectively projected shame that we internalize. Years of conditioning are involved, and it takes a lot of deconstructing- seeing straight through people’s projections, triggers, and the pedophilic standards created for the male gaze. When I start deconstructing it, I do feel relief and become more comfortable with my own body hair. But somewhere, there’s still internalized shame and that feeling that it’s easier to conform creeps in because society rewards those who do. The fear of being judged is still there, which is fair enough because of the systems we live in. Do I care? Absolutely not. But does my body still respond to that conditioning? Yes and that’s okay. It’s not that easy. It's been almost 2years, that I didn't shave and wax, and I couldn't care less.

As a butch lesbian, 90% of the way gender is enforced on me is that somebody goes “You should grow your hair out/wear a dress/shave/wear makeup/etc” and I say “No I don’t like to do that” and the other person responds “Oh but you’d look so pretty! Do you hate yourself? Is that why you don’t want to be a girl? Don’t worry—you totally ARE a girl!!!” Well, either that or they make it clear that the thought process is “the only reason you look like a dyke is surely that you’re too stupid to figure out how to be pretty—Do Not Worry, i am a girl’s girl and will explain 🥰 women supporting women 🥰🥰“
