Zaouli is a traditional mask dance of the Guro people in central Ivory Coast. The ornate mask honors a woman who, according to legend, lost her life in a wager between tribal leaders. Her child survived, and the dance became her memorial, passed down through generations. UNESCO has recognized Zaouli on its Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
