@beastieandbone: I feel like the conspiracy theory board man meme trying to explain this, but I’m so curious to hear if other creatives experience something like this! #creativity #creativeprocess #inspiration #art #creative
Yes it is. 🤣 I have a poster board on my wall where I stick notes / write down random ideas a call it the wall of chaos. I visit it when I can figure out what to do next.

Same here! I'm never not thinking about projects. Or as I walk around somewhere noticing the designs, decor, etc... Seeing things at a thrift store or on the side of the road and immediately thinking if 20 ways to use, upcycle, or repurpse it

Oh good Im not alone 😅 I always feel like there's never enough time in the day to do all the creative things that pop into my head and theyre just like floating around me all the time like little orbs just waiting for me to look inside and reach in and make it real lol At times it definetly gets over whelming and over stimulating but I try to look at it like im just living in a whimsy world full of life and potential that im lucky enough to create. Most of the time that works lol

I know personally, this really takes a hold on me when someone is talking to me about their problems. Even if they don’t outright call it a problem, they can just kind of send me the vibe that they are struggling with this one element of something… I will immediately be flooded with solutions. I have to actively shut my brain off long enough to be able to listen to them finish going through their whole thing to then ask myself “have they already figured this solution out or do they want to hear my opinion?” Because often times, I’ll blurt out my thought and they will have already done that. And the last thing I want to do is to be that person who always has the answers to everything. I always want people to feel safe coming to me as like a soundboard. I don’t always need to have the solution for them even though I probably have six. LOL

I make jewelry and I often have the same waterfall of ideas - often when I’m making something else. What I’ve done so I don’t lose those ones creeping in is either make a quick snapshot post it note outlining the idea, or I use one of the many wee melamine dishes I have for sitting/gathering bits for a design and I put a few of each bead/stone I want to try putting together. I often have stacks of those dishes sitting, waiting until the idea grabs ahold of me and sometimes it doesn’t work at all, but because I’m visual and designing actual physical pieces, I need to see them together on my board rather than just in my mind to see if I’ve got a viable piece. Not sure if that answers what you were asking, but there it is. I often bounce my creativity questions off of my spouse, who is a musician but sometimes our creative problems/solutions aren’t similar enough to get me an answer that I need.

yep. When I was in hs I'd stay up writing short story after short story like if I didn't get it finished right then I'd perrish. I'm full up with ideas, I wish I could turn it on and off.

YES! I often feel completely overwhelmed by ideas, to the point where I just do none of them and judge myself for being unproductive

it's different a little because I'm me and I write, but I tend to be creative say ~10 days a month. carefully outline and write down my inspiration and then grind it the rest of the time

I used to have a waterfall and now so much of my time and energy are relegated to “normal adult human stuff” that theres like… barely a trickle? And it’s been making me Very Sad tbqh :( I used to just jot everything down in my sketchbook, after all my sketchbook is for me so who cares if it’s full of notes?

Yes, omg yes!!! I’ve never heard anyone else talk about this! “It’s just there.”- exactly! I also have to work at keeping the extra ones out or else I struggle to finish what I’m actually trying to work on. I am also very chronically ill and it messes with my ability to create.

The worst is that the inspiration for really cool pieces hits at the worst possible times too, the haunted muses whisper while I'm showering like "wouldn't it be so cool if you made THIS!" when I can't even write it down and I've got 15 other projects going 😂

Absolutely a thing. I love how you articulate it. I definitely have persisting ideas from over a decade ago. And the waterfall is a great analogy—how much of my life am I just sputtering and trying to keep the water out of my nose and eyes from the deluge?? 😅

It's a thing for sure! I have ideas out the wazoo for a huge variety of things, but I struggle with actually getting them actualized. Or finished.

I also deal with this! It’s amazing for what I do for a living but it is hard to balance sometimes when I have other life stuff that requires my time/energy first. I do have a lot of loosely-started concept doodles and written notes stacked for when the timing is right and I can actually pursue them, and that helps me feel like I can take care of whatever had to be the priority in the moment. Still feels frustrating sometimes to redirect that energy in a less creative way!

Some creatives, absolutely. I'm lucky to have one idea a week, and it's probably mid shower then I forget by the time I get out. Personally I am very good at developing an idea or implementing a theme, but very bad at spontaneous creativity

For me it is. There are so many ideas of what I want to do. And sometimes I finally use one or sometimes it’s a new one I’m excited for that gets done.
