Make sure you make it clear to the foreman that your going to go do something extra off task cause MF be like “what you doing where you going nah I need this done “ just communicate with your foreman stand up and be proud

I agree but it completely, you say "if you know what needs to get done" sure if you have the experience and the knowledge of the process then keep working, but as an apprentice a lot of the time they dint have a full picture if the job and sometimes dont know if the foreman wants to wait on a process before moving along with the next step, its not always feasible to keep working on production cuz you could get yelled at for doing it without direction. sometimes its just best to go find whoever is giving you tasks and ask for whats next, if they didn't give you enough work to keep you busy for longer then its their fault and there is likelu a reason for it

in my local you can't leave apprentices alone to work. depending on their year they are you can to a point but forward thinkers who look ahead, set up the next step or steps while multitasking by themselves, a partner or a group etc are hard to come by these days.
