Married 32 years. The only two pieces of marriage advice I ever have, one is pretty easy to do, and the other... some people don't like. . The easy one is, recognize that you are a team. You can't win an argument, you can't lose an argument: you win together, or you lose together. My favorite saying is Japanese: a husband and wife, working together, can bail out the ocean. . The hard one is: never lie. Ever. About anything, no matter how big or small. Don't lie just to keep the peace, don't lie because you're too tired to fight right now, don't even lie to spare their feelings. This is very hard to do; especially in the beginning, it feels impossible. But if you can do this, your spouse will know, for an absolute fact, not just a hope, that you're telling her the truth. And that trust is more valuable to your marriage than gold.

Go to bed angry. Revisit it when you both have slept on it.

Don’t bad mouth your spouse to your family. If you need to vent find a friend that will understand you are just venting not wanting them to hate your spouse. Families usually can not be neutral.

25 years married….my tip is to believe the behavior, not the words. Words come easy and can “roll”, whereas action is intentional and takes effort. Believe what you see, not what you hear.

“Eventually you stop asking, ‘do we love each other?’ And start asking, ‘do we want the same kind of life.’” THIS is exactly right.

One thing we do is when one of us is just grumpy or having an off day, we plainly tell the other one “I’m grumpy today”. It lets the other partner know that it’s nothing personal. You’re allowed to be in a bad mood, but when it’s not communicated that it’s not bc of your partner, it can become tense or leave the other partner feeling like they did something wrong.

Married 41 yrs together 46. Communicate with each other. Talk about everything together...the big stuff, the uncomfortable stuff, the fun stuff. This builds trust.

Married 11 years, been together 16. Best advice I can give, it's not just you and her. Purposely add God as your 3rd and there will always be peace and an ever-growing love for one another.

Raising your voice is a choice. We decided to keep voices down and step away to give each other space if voices get heated. We both came from screaming homes, so we know that triggers and creates fear for both of us.

Only advice I will add is if you have an issue with your spouse, NO ONE should know that BEFORE your spouse! TALK OUT YOUR SHIT! You can't ask everyone else what to do in a marriage conflict before you ask/discuss with your spouse. You're married to ONE person, not your friends/family

An argument with your wife is NOT like an argument with your MOM when you were a Kid. You’re not gonna be grounded or things taken away from you. Talk the whole thing out when it happens, it’s much easier to get through & over, she’s your Best Friend as well as your Wife. Have your discussion like you’re talking to a Friend
