Always recover Freon from a system with a known leak, for the EPA. it also creates a sense of urgency for the customer to authorize repairs

I know it’s a skit. But just so all the young techs getting started know, that has per EPA, you will be held legally responsible for letting a car leave that has a known leak. I understand charging it to verify leak location but when you are done, you gotta evacuate it back out.

If system is already discharged you replace Schrader valves on hi and low side. Then air compressor spliced into hi side line then listen for leak.

I use Nitrogen to find A/C leaks. I've found alot more leaks under lower pressures than the higher pressures...

Much more economical to charge the system with nitrogen and then use a spray bottle filled with soapy water to find the leak.

I use nitrogen, but thats just me I suppose. Ill give the benefit of the doubt, and say it was a slow enough leak that it didn't leave witness residue, slow enough "leak detect" spray wouldn't produce bubbles cause of its location and in a last ditch effort we charge with dye. Even at that, im pulling that charge back out regardless, with or without repair. Just me prob though...

THE AC MACHINE WOULDA FOUND THAT LEAK BEFORE RECHARGING 😳

Matthijs :
You shouldn’t fill an ac with refrigerant if you know it’s leaking, you should use nitrogen to find the leak and fill it after. That way the customer won’t have to pay twice and the ac still wont work when they pick up the car.
