This is a good idea! My kids all know my number have since they were 2. They memorized it because I had lost my phone in the house so many times I’d call my phone from the Alexa. Then if I would leave to the store or pt work or anything my teenagers wouldn’t let the little call me constantly from their cell phones so my littles would go call me from the Alexa 😂

My mom used to have us tell her how to get home from places we went to frequently, like the grocery store, school, etc. She'd just drive, and we had to tell her where to turn and what way to go. As we got better she'd throw in a curve ball, new place but in a town we went to frequently. Taught us not only to be observant of our surroundings but also how to give directions.

To teach your kids to be aware of their surroundings, play an observation game. Ask questions after you go somewhere about things you encountered. What color was the car parked next to us? What was the name of the cashier? How many people were in the cereal aisle with us? They'll start to pay attention as second nature.

Count to ten every time my son cried during diaper changes and he is now 2 and will count when he’s upset to calm down. I also sang the ABCs when he was calm during changes and he knows every letter+sound! Same for my 15mo!

my mom hack is making my kid describe what I am wearing and pointing out staff anytime we are somewhere with a higher 'getting lost' potential like Six Flags, Holiday World, baseball games etc.... I think it also just teaches situational awareness and to prepare before something goes wrong.... idk if it really works but makes me feel better

Long before I became a mom I saw a video of a mom who told her kids a star showed up on their forehead every time they lied so whenever they did lie they would put their hand over their forehead to “hide” the star and that’s how she knew they were lying 😂

Not exactly a hack, but when I was a child, I got lost. People asked me what my mom’s name was, and I replied with “mom” because that was her name to me. I was so terrified. So, the moment my kids could talk, I made sure they knew that yes, I am mom, and I have a name. I probably repeated my name to them as much as I repeated the word “mom” because I wanted to ensure they knew mom’s name, unlike how I didn’t.
