@empoweringspeechservices: Does your child have a hard time recalling details of their day? Let’s give them some practice! This is an EASY WAY! Take a picture of something meaningful to them during their day. Show it to them at bedtime and talk about it with them. This supports their expressive language development and also their nonverbal working memory! Nonverbal working memory is your brain‘s ability to hold a picture or image in your mind. For example, think about your last vacation. In your mind, you can probably “picture” that! (Ex. the beach, the mountains, etc). That’s your nonverbal working memory! Nonverbal working memory is critical for language development. When you show your child a photo from their day, it can help their brain remember the experience. Then it may become easier for your child to talk about it out loud. Research shows that working memory, including visual and nonverbal, working memory, plays an important role in language development because children have to hold onto experiences, images, words, and ideas long enough to understand them and talk about them. Try this with your child and let me know how it goes! Share this with another person who needs to hear it! ♥️ References: Gathercole, S. E., & Baddeley, A. D. (1993). Working Memory and Language.
