@myfavouritejo: Most people think "autistic people can't make eye contact" that isn't actually what the DSM says about autistic people at all. What is actually says is "abnormalities in eye contact", which again I think is stupid. What it should actually say is "eye contact that is different from neurotypical people" ie we are aware eye contact really doesn't make a difference at all but y'all seem obsessed with it 😵‍💫 See here is how eye contact feels for an autistic person: I am concentrating so hard on "getting it right" that I am not listening to a single word you are saying. On top of that if emotions are high, especially negative, I will feel those emotions hugely intensified if I have to stare into your eyeballs, and it feels extremely aggressive. And eye contact for ADHDers: well now I'm not listening to a word you said cause all I can see is that unusual fleck of colour in your eyes, and that necklace looks great with that top. There's some lipstick on their teeth, that really is a nice shade of lipstick. Oh crap wait what were they saying? I can't believe i did this again, it's no annoying that I don't even... wait I'm still doing it!! And then you have AuDHD: ok here we are with the eye contact, I am listening to what they... there's a bit of parsley in their teeth, am I meant to tell them that or let them work it out themselves? Will they be mad if I tell them? Or more mad if they find out themselves later that I didn't tell them. Wait I'm meant to be listening! Crap where have I been looking this entire time?
