SRA FIELDS :
Thanks for the washing info. I’m always wondering if I’m doing anything or just wetting it.

Grow. Your. Own. Berry plants take maybe a year to set up, easily make new plants and will give you your own harvests. I can buy 20-30 bare root strawberry plants for $30. That is what my household spends on berries in a month.

My conspiracy theory is I SWEAR in every pack of strawberries they have to add one that is very old so that it molds shortly after you purchase the package of berries and then it infects the rest of the berries before you can even notice and then you have to buy more berries.

Vinegar soak makes my berries and grapes last for a week or more. Magic!

I have found that when I rinse them and do a baking soda soak, let them dry, and then put them in a mason jar ( actual canning lid not the fake screw on) with a paper towel they last super long. so if you do.want to rinse them all at once they this method.

What in the world does rinsing in washing them do? I have never ever washed my produce, cause I never saw a reason for it. But after this whole Driscoll strawberry fiasco, I’ve been reading more into berries and different things about them, and I see a lot of people wash all of their produce, but I never understood what washing them does.

Save on in Canada has raspberries and black berries for $1.49 per small clamshell. I just need to share because this is a very big deal

I rinse them all at the same time, remove the tops and cut them as desired. Then place in an air tight container with after towel drying. They last over a week for me consistently since I eat them for breakfast! Make sure to remove strawberries that look like they’re going bad & cut off the soft /moldy bits.

Have you seen the fruit and veggie wash influencers have been promoting recently? Renovera? It’s literally $53 for a bottle

There was another creator (I think named Morticia) that shared a big food storage, safety, and prep document last year that covered this kinda stuff. Hopefully someone remembers where to get it

our produce sits in warehouses before it gets to our grocery stores. they're old. the best produce goes to hotels, restaurants and Industrial. we get leftovers. I did a vinegar soak and then dried in salad spinner and they lasted over a week

Why do my strawberries last longer after I wash and chop them before storing them in the fridge? That's what I notice if I prepare them

Yeah but then I never eat the berries because to eat one I'd have to wash it and that's too much effort for berries

I try to stick with frozen berries. More economical and I never have to throw them out.
