Very Founder Brain. While this is technically true for startups and people working in product, when the big things like scale, infrastructure, security, compliance, etc (this list is endless) comes into play, the subject matter experts with deep knowledge and technical backgrounds become essential. Claude can rework your frontend based on a screenshot. It cannot architect a maintainable enterprise system at scale.

This doesn’t really make any sense. CS is and was never about learning syntax. It’s about the math, logic, algorithm thinking, engineering principles. It’s like saying learning math is useless because calculators can do it for us.

Been working in tech since 2006. My degree is in psychology. You’ve never needed a CS degree to work as a software developer. You just need to show you’re capable to execute the job description.

They haven’t needed a CS degree for some time now, over a decade. I don’t have one and have been in software development for 14 years

CS degrees were never required. I’ve worked at FAANG and there were many physics, math, etc SWEs

Soon everyone that is using AI to vibe code will need again Software Engineers because the tokens or credits will be much more expensive than paying a Developer 😅

A CS degree was never required to be a software engineer. Some of the best programmers I’ve worked with either didn’t have a CS degree, or didn’t have a degree at all.

This is terrifying and I'm an engineer who uses AI .... we still need human eyes on code and to review what the AI produces

I’ve been a vp of engineering for several years and I’ve always looked at a CS degree as an obstacle. The profile of software engineers with CS degrees rarely fit who I want to

As a Support Manager, I designed the AI Fluency foundation for me team and it outlines actually this. Support and Eng has had an invisible wall, so I outlined what it takes to speak Eng.its all about trust and partnership. We are moving the solution up as quickly as possible and using leverage that was never available before. Running a POC where support provides the easy to flag solutions by scanning repos and submits diagnostics of the code itself. It’s a different world.

That's not a software engineer, that's a systems engineer or integration engineer. Very different skillset.

You need actual system design experience, knowing how to scale and what breaks under real world use. None of this is covered by any AI I use yet, that includes claude opus 4.7.
