@selfmasterycommunity: Most anxious people are trying to think their way out of a nervous system state. That’s exhausting. Because anxiety isn’t just mental. It’s physiological. Your nervous system changes your breathing, posture, muscle tension, digestion, attention, and heart rate before you even consciously realise you’re anxious. This is why somatic approaches matter. “Somatic” simply means body-based. Instead of only asking: “What are you thinking?” I also ask: “What is your body doing right now?” Because the body stores patterns. Chronic bracing. Shallow breathing. Jaw tension. Holding your stomach tight. Always scanning for danger. Over time, your nervous system can get stuck in protection mode. And when the body feels unsafe… …the mind creates anxious thoughts to match the body state. This is why overthinking often gets worse when the nervous system is dysregulated. So in somatic work we focus on: • regulating the body first • creating safety internally • increasing emotional capacity • teaching the nervous system that discomfort is survivable That might include: • breathwork • grounding exercises • mindful movement • interoceptive awareness • vagus nerve stimulation • orienting exercises • learning how to sit with sensations safely This isn’t “woo.” There’s real neuroscience behind it. Your brain and body are constantly communicating through the nervous system, especially through the vagus nerve. When your body receives signals of safety, your brain becomes less reactive. And when the brain becomes less reactive… …the overthinking starts losing fuel. My loops are horrendous and are all lies and it has made a horrific storys up and then tries to pull me in to it. its mentally draining 😪 😩. It trys to trick me then drags me in and I end up arguing with it.
