@thinkingcanine: This puppy is highly stressed, and showing signs of fear and potentially conflict induced aggression. This puppy needs help right away. And in the meantime if you have a puppy like this, make life a pleasant experience. Don’t get into a match with your puppy, reward them and teach them that the world is a safe place.
Im not crazy about the owners tone of voice. Dogs respond positively to a higher more excited voice.

her voice is also pretty harsh . never owned a golden retriever but my family has two (german and swiss) shepherds currently, and they respond far better to positive, happy tones, especially when going somewhere. i’m curious about her training methods since a dog trained with positive reinforcement is less likely to react that way .

Retrievers are food motivated and sensitive.

Wow I have the opposite problem. Mine will only go in its crate at night. She leaves a 6 ft radius around it during the day even if I fill it with treats

Do you have tips for dogs who are neither food motivated or play motivated?

My dog is a shelter mutt & just wasn’t socialised as a puppy. That & her mum’s street dog genetics mean she can be quite nervous. If she’s refusing to get out of her bed (in an enclosed nook), we just leave her there. She stays in when she’s overwhelmed so we just leave her alone & wait until she’s regulated herself to come out. However she’s at a point where she trusts her family enough that if we need her to come out now for whatever reason, she will do. But that’s only because we put in the work to just leave her alone when she’s stressed

i wonder if the puppy is in pain. a highly active breed not wanting to go for a walk, to the point where it becomes a conflict, that in and of itself is concerning

The kennel is supposed to be a dog’s safe space. And she’s getting up in his face with that tone, id be grumpy/snappy too. “We’re going to the beach for the first time, you’re supposed to be excited” Motherf- FIRST TIME! It’s a dog, not a mindreader! He doesnt know what youre saying or where you wanna take him- why the HELL are you assuming he’ll be excited????!

I'm worried about how she treats him when she's not recording. It just seems common sense to offer a reward.

also, if the puppy has gone potty, then maybe just leave him in the crate and go to the beach without him.

That dog looks like its in pain. Panting plus the curling of the lips is an indication of pain.
