Don't aim to be the smartest clerk in the room, aim to be the most teachable.

Just take it all in and take everything as a learning experience. This is the time to make mistakes, but when you do- take it as a learning opportunity and never do the same mistake twice. Make friends with your clerk buddies and nurses because they will make your life much easier. Huwag mag-isip ng trabaho (especially sa clerk buddies mo kasi you need to help each other out).

mini paper as your tickler, walk as fast as you can, don't eat heavy meals on duty, don't flinch when reprimanded, list down diseases encountered then study for 1 hr before sleeping.

1. It will NEVER be wrong to ask questions or clarify something especially if di ka sure; 2. If aaralin mo case ng px assigned to you (esp if multiple diagnoses sila), mas maganda if aralin mo siya “problem-list” style; 3. Non-acad tip: Lifesaver honestly having a carabiner hooked to your scrubs na halos andun yung small needs mo (ie pulse ox, keychain alcohol, keychain na penlight, bandage scissors, isang leukoplast or micropore tape, keychain calcu, cheat sheet cards etc) trust me on this 🤚

it will be very overwhelming at first especially if your first rotation ay isa sa mga majors. my first rotation was IM and i cried malala and i wanted to quit. my sister had to come to see me to calm me down. pero push through and malalampasan din. all of your batchmates will go through the same thing. you are not alone. it might be easy for some but kakayanin. you will learn to enjoy it through interaction with your patients, having nice residents and attendings who are really willing to teach you want want you to learn pero prepare din for the mistakes you might make, the heartaches, but in the end, you will become a good or the best doctor yet for your patients. good luck doc! 😁👍

Dont be afraid to ask your seniors when you dont know something or not sure of something. Also be open to learning all the skills. Like if may pinagawa sayo go lang tas if di ka sure how to do it sabihin mo doc okay lang ba paturo ako or pa guide ako. Kasi i believe practice din kasi helps you become more confident throughout your clerkship

Read on cases you see. Chances are you’ll see them again and next time you know how to manage it better. Take clerkship as your best teacher for the boards.😊

1. Not everyone will be nice to you. Pasok sa kanan, labas sa kaliwa; 2. Don’t be a know-it-all, be teachable; 3. Be kind to the nurses. You will need their help; 4. Study the cases of your patients. Always carry a small notebook with you and jot down the case, treatment—experience is the best teacher; 5. And the most important of all, prioritize your health. If hindi mo talaga kaya, don’t force yourself. Don’t listen to the “ganyan talaga kapag doctor ka”. Hindi naman sila ang gagastos kapag naospital ka.

One patient at a time, Doc 🥹 most of the days you’ll wonder if this will all be worth it and i’ll tell you, it will be. I cried my heart out on our 1st month of clerkship thinking I wanna give up everything because I don’t want that kind of life, but look at me now, just finished our 12 months of clerkship ❤️🩹 time will surely pass by unknowingly. Don’t be afraid to ask for help too, Doc 🥺🥹 you might be the lowest rank in the hierarchy, but at least you are in the room. You are there for a reason. Congratulations on clerkship, Doc! 🩺🤍

1) Acknowledge the obvious - nakakapagod sya sobra. Steep learning curve. Physically exhausting. Emotionally taxing. Mentally overwhelming. And it really takes some time to adjust. 2) Maraming learnings. Pero ok lang if hindi mo lahat makuha at in one go. Kaya kung hindi mo nakuha once, ask help, ask questions pa rin. 3) Lahat ay learning experience. Yes, even yung pagrespond sa masungit na tao sa ospital. Kasi once you have that license, you’ll meet them again. Learn how to manage your responses to them this early so it’s easier na next time. 4) Enjoy the ride. Sa duty, makipagchikahan ka with co-clerks, interns and residents if may free time. Try to go out once in a while with them. You create lasting relationships in the bleakest environments. 5) Be kind to yourself. You are new to this. If magkamali, bawi next time. If pagod, hinga ng onti then tayo ulit. Hanap ka ng favorite food mo that can comfort you immediately when things are rough in the hospital. You can do this!

don’t be so hard on yourself on the first few days of every rotation kasi adjustment phase talaga yan but also make sure that you slowly keep up with the workload, be kind to everyone (nurses, hospital staff, patients) always, and don’t forget to eat breakfast/the meal before your duty starts (coz you don’t when ka makakain ulit). kaya mo yan, doc! ✨

Wag mag iimbento ng vital signs, kahit sobrang toxic or nakalimutan.. never ever write sa monitoring sheet ng hindi mo nachecheck ang patient. Good luck doc! 😊

Work smart, not hard. Tiyaga and diskarte. Always ask when in doubt. Wag awayin mga nurses, they are your best buddies. Learn as much as you can and ito yung time na okay lang magkamali. And lastly, KUMAIN. MATULOG. while you can. Wag nyo toxicin sarili nyo. Wag kupal sa dutymate. hehe. Enjoy clerkship, ito yung masaya pero ayaw na balikan! 😆🤭 Goodluck Doctora!

Its better to over inform than under inform, when in doubt always refer to your interns/residents, you never know baka toxic na pala ang patient and you’re the one that caught it before it got worse

Be a sponge absorb everything kahit pagalitan ka. Pasok sa tenga labas sa kabila. Rest if you can. Theres no I sa team so help each other out every shift para matawid ang duty. Always have the initiative in doing things, wag mag hintay pag sabihan bago gawin. Pag change rotation na always endorse properly sa next group. Pag tibayin mo history and PE mo. Youre not expected to fully manage patient but HxPE dapat alam mo kahit nakapikit ka. 1 year lang to so make most of what you can do right and learn from your mistakes. Good luck dockie

Mag bilang ka ng RR. Hahahaha kidding aside. Be humble. Keep learning. You can get a lot from the most simple cases. VS monitoring? I know it’s draining, pero, medicine is already building your character as a future doctor. Enjoy! 1 year lang yan. May version 2 and 3 pa yan when you pass the boards. Hehe

Be active in learning from every patient encounter. I know it’s easier said than done, but try to squeeze in some reading about cases in your current rotation. Lastly, be kind to yourself and to your fellow clerks. You’re all on the same toxic boat anyway so don’t be toxic to each other 😅 You got this, doc!

be nice to everyone! nurses will help you if you’re nice to them. don’t be afraid to ask questions to residents and consultants. most of them appreciate it when you ask or at least react to what they’re teaching you :)) be proactive also! try to volunteer if may skills kang matututunan or observe. most of the skills I learned in clerkship is malaking help now that i’m a pgi! good luck and enjoy, dokie!
