@talonridgeraptors: There’s something about releasing a bird back into the wild. The emotion, the excitement, the nervousness you feel for the bird in that moment wells up inside of you and sometimes can’t be contained. For John, there are always tears of joy — in the moment, during the watchful minutes after release, or on the drive home, those tears always find a way to fall. It’s a reminder that what we do is so important. It’s a reminder that we have a purpose and a mission to fulfill. It’s a reminder that all the miles traveled to rescue a bird, all the heartache you feel when you can’t save one, or all of the time spent caring for an injured animal is worth it to see this in the end. Fly free little one, we hope you live a long and happy life! This is a juvenile red-tailed hawk that was rescued by us after getting into a fight with a rooster. Injured and starving, we transported this bird to our SOARR partner, Owl Ridge Raptor Center, for care and rehabilitation. After some much needed rest, care, and nutrition, this bird was deemed releasable by the amazing staff at Owl Ridge, and we were able to transport this bird back to the Tri-Cities for release!
