@spicycounselor: Realizing humans would gladly punish other humans for what they praise god for really started the unraveling of the character of god for me. & knowing the character of an entity or person is the basis on which we build relationships- human or divine.

This hit me when I became a parent - like I would never banish my kids if they didn’t choose what I wanted them to do?

Would you stay in contact with a parent who insisted you talk to them all day about your deepest feelings and your struggles and demands you thank them for everything you have (despite you working your butt off to get it), but they’ll only talk to you in cryptic messages that you have to interpret because they’re different every time? And they sometimes respond to your requests for help, but usually just leaves you on your own to figure things out and then takes credit when you do.

This makes so much sense logically and I’m realizing how deeply indoctrinated I am because a part of me just cannot let go.

I realized, after reading the Bible front to back, that the US government and God had a lot in common. It was the catalyst to my deconstruction era.

The whole bit where he created us, chose to make us “bad” from the beginning, and then punished us for being bad? Make it make sense.
