Leo is bringing back liberation theology even more than Francis. LT has a chance to become one of the most powerful intellectual currents of the XXI century, bc last time, in the XX, there were other influential voices critiquing capital, not just LT (and the pope was not LT). Liberation theology sounds different now when its the lone dissenting voice with global influence.

I think the Pope IS criticising use of AI generally. He is not limiting his critique to the use of autonomous weapons, but also looking and its wider consequences, like the effects on the environment and its effect on humans and humanity itself, raising a warning on the ethical implications of AI-use itself.

What a magnificent post. As you say, Pope Leo's words are not exclusively Catholic - correct! "catholic" - small "c" literally means "universal," "all- inclusive." This world has begun to feel like we are, right now, living in hell. Not in a depressed way, but in a categorical way. I didn't think much about the endgame of capitalism when I was younger. Now it seems so obvious the true meaning of life is not the ability to achieve "success", but rather the ability to make a difference in another's life; a difference on this earth upon which we live.
